QUAIL MOUNTAIN MORGANS
The Kentucky Morgan Breeders Incentive is a new awards program which was enacted in 2006 as a part of the more comprehensive Kentucky Breeders Incentive program. The Kentucky Breeders Incentive earmarks tax revenue from stallion fees and returns it to the Equine Industry in the form of purses and awards. The ultimate goal of the Breeders Incentive program is to support the horse breeding industry in Kentucky.
In the case of the racing industry, the funds are used to increase purses for Kentucky-bred race horses. In the case of the non-racing breeds, each breed is able to create their own awards program which most fits the breed, provided it is limited to the Kentucky-bred horse.
The Kentucky Morgan Breeders Incentive has been developed to reward top performing Morgan horses who have are Kentucky bred. The award, as of the 2007 figures, is estimated to be a total of $16,000 across all awards. The awards which will be given are:
1. The top three point earners in Morgan Class A shows, using the point system maintained by USEF. USEF keeps records on ALL Class A/USEF sanctioned shows. These are the shows that the KY Breeders Incentive plan focuses on, because USEF is the sanctioning body which keeps track of the points earned.
2. The top point earner in the following three open disciplines, using the point systems maintained by USEF:
-Dressage
- Reining
-Combined Driving
The award monies will be divided between the horse owner, the horse breeder and the sire owner as follows:
- Horse owner: 80%
- Breeder: 10%
- Sire Owner: 10%
Requirements:
Horses eligible for the awards must be registered with KMHA. This is a lifetime registration.
Owner, Breeder and Sire Owner must all be members of KMHA at time of the award. Winners will be notified prior to award so that they may join the association if they have not already joined.
